Game Two

If it wasn’t for the Yankees’ 40-year-old captain, they most likely would’ve dropped the second game of this series as well. Jeter hit a tie-breaking single in the 9th inning, to lift the Yankees over the Rays on Saturday, and to help end their five-game losing streak. Set-up man Dellin Betances was lights out in the 8th, and allowed closer David Robertson to save his 32nd game of the season, as the Yankees brought it home, winning 3-2.

Yankees’ starter Shane Greene, was once again impressive. He went six innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits, and struck out a career-high 10 hitters. He left with the game with the lead, but Shawn Kelley allowed his inherited run to score, notching it at 2-2.

Martin Prado had given the Yankees an early 2-0 lead with a two-run blast that scored both he and Chase Headley. It wasn’t until later in the game that Greene simply ran out of gas, and Kelley wasn’t able to work out of Greene’s jam. It was a nice team effort, bouncing back after losing the momentum, to have Jeter drive in the winning run, and even the series at one game each heading into Sunday’s finale. Jake McGee took the loss for the Rays on Saturday.
