3. 1B Connor Spencer (.318, 0 HR’s, 8 RBI’s)

Spencer was on the top-five list and he remains on the list primarily because his swing has continued to be successful. The first baseman has eight hits in the last six games and also padded his extra-base hit total with a double and triple during this past homestand. Back on Saturday, Spence hit a triple to deep right field to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Over the past series against Auburn, Garza used Spencer in the number five spot of the lineup in each of the two games he started.

The month of July was a success for the UC-Irvine alum. He hit .337 at the plate with a .795 OPS over the course of 22 games. The other aspect of Spencer’s game that been solid, to say the least, has been his fielding. He has made just two errors in 23 games at the position, trailing only Devyn Bolasky and Nathan Mikolas for fewest errors on the team.

The strikeouts did go up for Spencer this week as he got K’d eight times in the last five games, including a three-strikeout game against Lowell on Thursday. But, to this point, Spencer has been one of those players you can rely on to get a hit almost every day. We will be keeping an eye on the road trip (Spencer hitting .387 on the road) to see if he has more chances to drive in some runs.
