Game Overview
The Yankees and Tigers meet in Game 3 of the 4 game series on Wednesday night. Brandon McCarthy pitched a gem in a 2-1 victory in the opening game. Alex Avila’s 12th-inning home-run lifted the Tigers past the Yankees 4-3 in game 2.
Last night was the Yankees 16th game in a row that was decided by 2 runs or fewer. They have had a tough time generating offense so far off of two Cy Young-winning pitchers in Max Scherzer and David Price, but Brandon McCarthy and Hiroki Kuroda have kept them in it.
Tonight marks the 3rd game of an 8-game home-stand for the Yankees who are 26-27 at home this season. The Tigers (62-48), who sit in first in the AL Central, are 32-21 on the road this year.
The Yankees, who were very active at the trade deadline, could still be looking to the waiver wire as rumors have swirled that they are interested in pitcher Wade Miley. Adding another pitcher might be necessary as the status of Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda is still unknown.
