St. Louis Cardinals’ ace and National League starter Adam Wainwright is excited to face Derek Jeter in tonight’s All-Star Game. Wainwright might be one of the most underrated players in all of baseball.  All he does is dominate hitters, and has even won two championships with the Cards. He is really excited to take the field as a starter, and one guy he is extremely excited to face is Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter.

“I have been in the big leagues for nine years. I’ve never faced him,” Wainwright said. “I’m very excited about it, just to say I faced the best. He is undoubtedly one of the best to ever play his position, one of the greatest Yankees of all time.” “Aside from having the ability to win two World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals, I think this has to be one of the highlights of my baseball career to this point,” Wainwright said. “One of the coolest things I can say I did, is to start a big league All-Star game.”  Wainwright was selected by his manager, Mike Matheny who just so happens to be the NL manager as well. However this no-bias decision was based upon the fact that Wainwright is 12-4 with a microscopic 1.83 ERA,  and 3 complete games so far this year. The other option would’ve been Los Angeles Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw.

This should be a fun match-up to watch with Derek Jeter  hitting lead-off in his final All-Star Game. The respect and admiration Jeter is getting is enough to give anyone chills.
