Yankees’ Minor League Roundup for May 18th

Sunday was a good day for the Yankee neophytes. They won three of four games. Here is how it played out.

TRIPLE A

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (21-21) defeat Pawtucket Red Sox (25-20) 3-2

Despite just three runs, the RailRiders had a nice day at the dish, collecting 10 hits as a team. Adonis Garcia, Ramon Flores and Jose Pirela each hd two. Jose Gil had two RBI. Zach Nuding got the start and went five-and-two-thirds, scattering six hts and striking out three. Pat Venditte picked up his first win in relief. He struck out all five batters he faced. The RailRiders will send Joel De La Cruz to the mound Monday.

DOUBLE A

Trenton Thunder (23-20) lose to Portland Sea Dogs(26-14) 2-1

The Thunder managed just five hits as a team Sunday and Robert Refsnyder drove in the only run. The offense wasted a solid outing from Jeremy Bleich. The Stanford product went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs (one earned), and striking out seven. Manny Banuelos takes the hill for Trenton on Monday.

SINGLE A

Tampa Yankees (22-20) defeat Palm Beach Cardinal (18-25) 5-4

Tampa was having a rough day Sunday, before getting four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jake Cave drove in the winning run with a walk off single that scored Anderson Feliz. Eric Wooten started for the Yankees’, and gave up three earned runs in six innings, striking out six. Dan Camarena will bring his 2.83 ERA into Monday’s start.

Charleston RiverDogs (23-19) defeat Savannah Sand Gnats (28-14) 10-3

Charleston batters had a nice day Sunday, collecting fourteen base knocks. Miguel Andujar had two homers and drove in five. Luis Severino was solid again, allowing three hits in four innings and striking out five. He didn’t allow a run. Ian Clarkin will start Monday for Charleston.
