The New York Yankees (50-42) had a mixed series in their four game set with the Kansas City Royals. While the team struggled in the first two games with their offense, the team scored eight runs in each of the last two games of the series. One of the stars for the offense was first baseman Lyle Overbay, who had 7 RBI’s in the four games. Despite injuries to Brett Gardner and Travis Hafner in Wednesday’s game, the team saw a familiar face return to the lineup on Thursday afternoon. Derek Jeter made a surprise return early to the team to play DH. He did have a single and a RBI in the 8-4 win, but the Captain left the game with tightness in his right quad, leading people, such as myself, to question why he was called up a day or two early. That being said, New York was able to salvage the split, and now heads into the final series of the first half with a good chance to gain some momentum heading into the second half of the season.

Last week, the New York Yankees’ offense woke up at Target Field when they played the Minnesota Twins (37-52). The Bronx Bombers outscored the Minnesota Twins 29-14 over the course of the four game sweep. Now, they will look to do the same to a Minnesota team that has lost nine of its last ten, including being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in a four game series at Tropicana Field. With less than three weeks till the trade deadline, teams will have their eye on some players on the Twins such as closer Glen Perkins and first baseman Justin Morneau for potential trades. Plus, it doesn’t help Minnesota that they have the worst road record in the American League (16-29) and hit just .228 on the road. With a starting pitching staff that has the worst ERA in baseball (5.35), this is the Yankees’ chance to gain yet another sweep of Minnesota.

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show, presented by BaldVinny.com, I discuss the return of Derek Jeter as well as the odds of A-Rod’s return to the Yankees continue to decrease by the day with the Biogenesis scandal. Brad Swanson from PuckettsPond.com joins me to talk about Minnesota’s recent slide, potential trades the team can make, and hitters to watch in this series such as catcher Ryan Doumit and center fielder Aaron Hicks. Plus, I give the details on the Yanks Go Yard 1st Half Roundtable Show that will air Sunday night at 10:30 P.M EST on wbisradio.com
