Yanks Go Yard Recap: Kuroda Injured As New York Yankees Fall In Baltimore

Hiroki Kuroda had been the most consistent New York Yankees’ starter. Tonight was his first bad game with a calf injury to boot. Kuroda left early after the Orioles hit him hard, as they took the rubber game of the series 6-3.

The Orioles got three runs in the first. With two out, Nick Markakis hit his fourth homer of the year. Adam Jones followed with a single and Chris Davis followed with his 14th homer of the season. The Yankees cut it to 3-1 in the third, when Curtis Granderson led off with a double, and Robinson Cano drove him home with a single.The Orioles tacked on to the lead in the third. Jones doubled and Davis singled which led to Kuroda being removed from the game. Preston Claiborne came in and gave up Matt Wieters‘ seventh homer of the year.

The Yankees made it 6-2 in the fifth when Granderson hit his first homer of the year. In the ninth, David Adams hit his second homer of the year.

The Yankees head to Tampa Bay Friday to take on the Rays. David Phelps will face Roberto Hernandez at 7:10.

Notes: Hiroki Kuroda is expected to make his next start Tuesday against Matt Harvey and the Mets. Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis each had six at bats in a simulated game. Andy Pettitte may not return when eligible next week. He will play catch tomorrow and the team will re-evaluate after that.
