Recap: The Yankees split the weekend games, losing Saturday to the Detroit Tigers 10-6, but winning against the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6. Ronnier Mustelier hit a walkoff home run to win it for the Yankees. Kevin Youkilis drove in four yesterday.Welcome Wells: The Yankees are close to acquiring outfielder Vernon Wells from the Los Angeles Angels. While it’s not clear who is going back to the Angels, the Yankees appear to be taking on only 13 of the $42 million left on the contract of Wells for the next two years. The $6 million will be close to the $8 million that the World Baseball Classic will be paying Mark Teixeira over the next two months because of his injury. Wells will join Brennan Boesch in left field while Curtis Granderson is on the shelf. Ben Francisco will also be in the mix too.

Injuries: Derek Jeter will be placed on the DL but will be eligible to be activated April 6. Jeter was unable to play in a minor league game today because of his ankle. Eduardo Nunez will start at shortstop opening day. Brennan Boesch is okay from his rib ailment. Mariano Rivera is okay after being diagnosed with migraine headaches.

Throwing: Chien-Ming Wang will throw a bullpen on Monday at the Yankees minor league complex.

The Yankees are off Monday and will return to action Tuesday night.
