Yankees Minor League Report & Draft Update: June 6, 2012

Each Wednesday, we’ll provide a predominately notebook style review of what’s happening in the Yankees minor league system. This week we’ll finish off the column with a list of the players the Yankees selected in Rounds 16 – 40 during today’s final day of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

International League North (AAA) – Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (32-27), 4th Place, 5 GB

4-4 since last week’s report
Russell Branyan had two homers and 6 RBI in yesterday’s victory. It was his fifth game with the SWB Yanks after being promoted from Tampa.
Ramon Ortiz leads a struggling rotation with a 3.47 ERA.

Eastern League Eastern (AA) – Trenton Thunder, (32-24), T-1st place

Cody Johnson leads the Thunder with 15 home runs
Thunder manager Tony Franklin won his 1,000th game on June 2, 2012

Florida State League (Advanced A) – Tampa Yankees (25-32), 5th place, 13.5 GB

1-5 since last and lost 3.5 games in standings
Pitcher Mark Montgomery, catcher J.R. Murphy and outfielder Rob Segedin were all named to the 2012 FSL All-Star Team

South Atlantic League Southern (A) – Charleston RiverDogs (35-22), 2^nd place, 5 GB

4-3 since last week
Right fielder Tyler Austin, catchers Gary Sanchez (leading vote getter) and Francisco Arcia, starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell and reliever Pedro Guerra were named to the SAL All-Star team. The entire RiverDogs coaching staff was selected as well.
Sanchez has three homers and nine RBI in the past five games.

Dominican Summer League BC South (Rookie) – DSL Yankees 1 (2-1), T-2^nd place, 1 GB
