Go West, New York Baseball! That’s right, the Yankees begin their first West Coast trip of the regular season tonight against the surprising Oakland Athletics. New York is coming out west on a good note, winning their last two games against the Kansas City Royals and getting some pop from the offense, particularly Alex Rodriguez.

One of the things we have come to expect from Oakland is their cavalcade of young arms, even though general manager Billy Beane seems to always trade them. Their offense has also become a liability lately since they have not scored a run in their last eighteen innings. However, that can be the case when the last two starters they faced were C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver respectably.

The intrigue about Oakland might not come in this series, but in future series with the Bombers with Manny Ramirez soon to return from suspension and Yoenis Cespedes recovering from a hand injury. The key will be for the Yankee starters to continue their string of recent success in the last two weeks. It all starts with Ivan Nova, who despite twelve strikeouts against the Reds, still gave up five earned runs in a loss on Saturday.

For this podcast, I spoke with Sean Davis of SwinginAs.com on Wednesday night to talk about this weekend’s series. Sean and I break down the starting pitching matchups for this weekend as well as take a look at the current and future state of the Oakland Athletics. I ask Sean questions about Ramirez, Cespedes and the surprisingly hot start from former Red Sox Josh Reddick.

As for the Yankee side, Sean asks me questions about Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Mark Teixeira and who my surprise player has been for the Bombers so far.

As always, you can have your questions answered by our FanSided insiders on the show. Tentatively, we will be talking with an Angels’ insider on Sunday night about the Memorial Day series. Just send your questions either in the comments below or tweet it to one of our great writers! Enjoy the show below!
