Smells Like… Yankees Team Fragrance?

facebooktwitterreddit

Wallace Matthews at ESPN New York is reporting that the Yankees have a team fragrance in the works and that they will be introducing it at a cocktail reception later this month. The fragrance will simply be called “New York Yankees” and don’t worry ladies – there will be a “for Her” version available as well.

To be honest, this is just… weird. Derek Jeter teamed up with Avon back in 2006 to launch his cologne, “Driven,” and has since expanded the line to include “Driven Black” (to represent Jeter’s darker, more intense side?). But it’s not uncommon for celebrities to go the fragrance route. On the other hand, the Yankees are the first actual team to enter the fragrance arena, although they and several other teams have licensed their logos to K-Mart for “Home Run Rush,” a scent which supposedly “smells exactly like Armani Code for Men.”

Which leads to the real question: what will “New York Yankees” smell like? For comparison, in Jeter’s fragrance the “top notes are spices, grapefruit and oakmoss; middle notes are lavender, rhubarb, mint and cardamom; base notes are musk and bamboo.” Does that mean anything to you? Yeah, me neither. The “smells like money” jokes are already being made, and I guess that scent is a preferable alternative to a clubhouse full of actual Yankees after a 4-hour matchup with the Red Sox in August.

But actual merits and craftsmanship aside, this product will sell. Ever struggled with the decision of what to get the Yankees fan who has everything? Well look no further because the Yankees brass just made the holidays and birthdays a whole lot easier for you.
