The Yanks beat the Twins 4-3 today to take the series 2-1.
It was a better showing than the previous game, when the team blew a 4-0 lead and lost 5-4 on Tuesday. Mainly, So pitched a one-hit eighth and didn’t walk three batters. He tossed 10 pitches in the appearance with eight going for strikes and topped out at 93 mph. He said his arm “felt better today” and, thank God, he met with reporters after the game. Because heaven forbid sportswriters don’t get what they want.
AJ also pitched well. He worked around one bad inning to yield two runs on five hits with five strikeouts to two walks in six innings of work. He’s looked solid over his first two starts, proving my pre-season hypothesis (so far) that he’s going to have a great year. I might be speaking a bit too early though, as he is now 7-0 with a 3.91 ERA in 12 April starts as a Yankee.
Joba also tossed a one-hit inning of relief (the 7th) and Mo offered a perfect ninth. Through his four saves this season, He has used just 36 pitches…did I mention he’s 41 years old?
Jeter went 2-for-3 with a double and is now 69 hits (ed’s note: hahahaha 69!!) away from 3,000.
Swisher almost killed Minnesota second baseman Tsuyoshi Nishioka trying to break up a double play in the seventh inning. Swish Dog fractured Nishi’s left fibula but did apologize to him before he left the stadium. Nishi and manager Ron Gardenhire both said they weren’t pissed at Swish and said it was a clean play (which it was), but Jon Heyman was still bitching about it on Twitter all day.
Swish Dog:
"It’s sad. I didn’t mean to do that.I’m glad I got a chance to talk to him. It definitely eased my mind. He told me, “It’s not your fault. Don’t feel bad.” I know I play hard, but you don’t ever want to go in there trying to hurt somebody."
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre announced their roster today, which is Opening Day for the minor leagues.
The real Yanks will now head to Beantown for a three-game set with the win-less Red Cox this weekend.
LET’S GO YANKS!!!
