Scenes from Opening Day

After attending Opening Day yesterday I came to these two conclusions: 1) Opening Day should be played in warm-weather cities or stadiums with a dome. Holy christ was it cold, but I regret nothing. 2) It’s not smart to start drinking beer at 9:30 in the morning. Again, I regret nothing.

Check out some of my thoughts about the game and pictures after the jump.

A Few Brief Thoughts:

  • Curtis Granderson looked great. He made some phenomenal catches for someone whose spot in the lineup was in doubt (oblique) just a few days prior. Plus he homered…OFF A LEFTY!
  • Tex homered, but he still hasn’t proven he can hit in April as the game was technically played in March.
  • I know it was only the first game of the season — and cold as a witch’s teat — but Jeet’s defense looked like trash. I hope that’s not a sign of things to come over the next three, and probably four with that player option, years.
  • The bullpen looked lights out, with Joba, So and Mo combining to throw three innings and yield no hits, runs or walks with three strikeouts. The only gripe I have is that two of Mo’s three outs were long fly ball outs, and if Grandy doesn’t make a ridiculous over-the-shoulder catch things could have been different.
  • CC didn’t look great out there, but much better than I expected given his propensity to shit the bed early on in the season.
  • The Yanks are on pace to win 162 games, not a chance in hell it happens but a kid can dream.

Some Pictures (I apologize, again, for the quality of these. I had to take them on my Crackberry):

That’s all I got. It was a good win, and hopefully it’s the first of many. The team will send AJ to the mound in game two of the season at 4:05 p.m. tomorrow against Brad Penny against these same Tigers. (BTW, I’m predicting a huge season for AJ. I’m not saying he will take the Cy Young by any means, but I think he’ll do very well. I’d say he’ll finish fifth or sixth in the voting. You heard it here first. Again, a kid can dream can’t he?)

LET’S GO YANKS!!!!
