Update on Pettitte

According to LoHud: MRI results for Andy Pettitte are in and the five-time WFC has mild inflammation of his left elbow. It will be treated conservatively (day-to-day) and he will be evaluated on a daily basis. I would be shocked if Pettitte didn’t miss AT LEAST one start, Cashman feels the same way. Great minds think alike.

In my previous post I, foolishly, said that Pettitte would not be able to pitch against the Sox this weekend but obviously he isn’t slated to go again until next Tuesday against the Tigers. Joe P of RAB thinks that Segio Mitre will get the start in Pettitte’s place in D-Town. He doesn’t feel that Ace is stretched out enough and thinks the Yanks don’t want to thrust Joba back into a starting role. Plus, Mitre would make sense because he pitched today so next Tuesday would match up with his next turn to pitch. Having Mitre start would do the least damage to the pitchers.

Look on the bright side, it could be A LOT worse; we should be glad Pettitte doesn’t have a further debilitating injury. Elbow inflammation, according to Wikipedia, usually dwindles with rest and treatment.

Girardi:

"We’ve seen Andy pitch through a lot of aches and pains over his long career."
"I think anytime a guy goes for a test you’re somewhat concerned. The fact that it’s moved spots makes me feel a little bit better. It was never in the ligament or the belly of the forearm."

Tex on the team’s injuries:

"That’s baseball, I don’t know one team that has gone a whole year without injuries. That’s the business. Other guys are going to step up and take their place."

Get well soon Andrew Eugene Pettitte, the team needs you and your 4-0 record and 2.08 ERA!!!!! Hopefully the Yanks will have you back on Sunday the 16th against the Twinkies at The Stadium.
