You can’t win all the games, that is. As far as series go, the Yanks are still unblemished.
The Yanks fell 4-2 today in the finale of a three-game set against the A’s but still took the series, two games to one. CC kind of shit the bed, giving up four runs — three earned — on four hits while fanning five and walking a career-high-tying six batters. He did go the distance (eight innings), though, but got no offensive support. The team was once again crappy with RISP (0-for-4), but Tex and Thames went yard.
On a lighter note, the Yanks turned a triple play in the sixth inning. The 5-4-3 triple play was the Yanks’ first since 1968 and came 6,632 games after their last one.
Besides the triple play, the story of the day was the sand in Dallas Braden’s vagina. Apparently Dallas was upset that A-Rod, after going from first to third on a foul ball, walked over the mound and stepped on the rubber on his way back to first. The 17-21 career pitcher shouted at the first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and then threw a hissy fit (Paul O’Neill-style) when he got back to the dugout, knocking over water coolers and throwing shit around.
Take it away Houston San Antonio Dallas:
"It’s disrespect to a pitcher. Maybe it doesn’t cross his mind to do that to the A’s, but maybe it does enter his mind to NOT do it against the Red Sox. But it didn’t even enter his mind. Any kind of disrespect, we’re going to talk about it. It’s over and done with as far as I’m concerned…I’d like to think an impression was made. Those guys, from top to bottom, are a class organization.I don’t care if I’m CY Young or the 25th man on the roster, if I’ve got the ball in my hand and I’m on that mound, that’s my mound. He ran across the pitcher’s mound foot on my rubber on. No, not happening. We’re not the doormat anymore…He should maybe watch his Captain a little more often."
He does have a point, there’s no chance A-Rod pulls that shit in Fenway. But who the fuck is he to talk that shit? Not the doormat anymore? Maybe if the A’s hadn’t averaged 75.3 wins over the last three seasons, were capable of drawing over 58 fans a game, didn’t trade away all their talent and weren’t a joke of an organization he’d have a point, until that day he should shut his mouth. But he did have a point. He also said something to the effect of “if he does it again there will be repercussions.” Give me a break. Though I do give him credit for saying the right things regarding the Yanks being classy and talking up Jeter.
Here’s A-Rod’s take on the situation:
"I thought it was pretty funny, actually…He just told me to get off his mound. I was a little surprised. I’d never quite heard that. Especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career."
Next up: AJ will be on the mound against Ervin Santana tomorrow as the Yanks (11-4) take on the Halos at 10 pm in the opener of a three-game set.
