Walk this way

Ladies and gentlemen: you can untie those nooses, turn off your cars and open those garage doors, put away those knives and step back from the ledges as everything is right world. The Yankees finally won a game in 2010. Thanks in large part to Nick Johnson’s bases-loaded walk and a strong showing from the bullpen, the NY panic level dropped a few thousand notches as the Yanks scratched out a 6-4 victory over the hated Red Sox on Tuesday. Though one has to wonder how the game would have played out if Scutaro didn’t botch that throw to first.

After a shaky start from AJ, Ace took over and made the Sox pay by throwing two innings of no-hit ball before Joba and Mo eventually slammed the door shut. Mo gave us a scare but, as usual, handled his business to record the save. D-Rob only faced one batter and Marte had an errant pickoff that (thankfully) didn’t bite the Yanks in the ass. It’s still early, but I liked what I saw from the ‘pen.

It was a much better showing than the opener, although Tex and A-Rod combined to go 1-for-10 with two RBI and a run scored and the team committed three errors. I’m not sure I can agree with Thames starting in left over Gardner, but you can’t argue with a W.

Andy (Can I) Pettitte is on the bump tonight going against the mouth breather (John Lackey), who is making his Red Sox debut.
