As Chan Ho Park arrived in Tampa on Sunday, it signified the end for Edwar Ramirez. The Yankees designated the righty for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Park. Although his ERA and WHIP were pretty high, Ramirez did show some signs of potential in his three seasons in the Bronx. However, his inconsistency was too much. There is a chance Edwar will clear waivers (if the Yanks go that route with him), but it isn’t likely.
As for Park, he said he came to the Yanks because he wants to win a ring. Which is kind of a slap in the face of the Phillies, who are one of the favorites to win the NL, especially since they offered upwards of $3 million. Park signed with the Yanks for $1.2 million and another $300,000 in incentives. I guess, possibly for the first time in history, it isn’t actually all about the money.
It’s kind of mind-boggling he signed with the Yanks because he said he wanted a chance to start; he would have had the same role in Philly as he will in the Bronx, plus twice the money and about the same chance to go to the Fall Classic. But, I guess, not the same chance to win it all. Take it away Chan Ho:
"It wasn’t easy to make a decision, because a lot of teams asked. But I’m trying to get a ring. That’s the most important thing."
The South Korea product may actually just want to win a ring in this case. That makes two of us.
