On the latest episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we took a look back at the Yankees first half of the season and what to expect going forward

On Sunday night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, I started off by giving my takeaways from the New York Yankees last series of the first half against the Cleveland Indians. New York took three out of four games, but they are 7.5 games behind the first place Baltimore Orioles and 5.5 games out of a playoff spot at 44-44.

For this episode, we decided to have a roundtable discussion about all things New York Yankees. The two panelists that joined me on the show were frequent co-host/staff writer Harrison Marder and the founder of Bronx Pinstripes and the co-host of the Bronx Pinstripes Podcast, Scott Reinen.

The three of us began our discussion by giving our overall takeaways from the first half and who were the team’s biggest surprises and disappointments. Some of the surprises we talked about were the play of All-Star Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius’ breakout year at shortstop. Meanwhile, some pitchers of note were underachievers such as Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi

After talking about the dominant bullpen trio of Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Aroldis Chapman, we continued our look at the starting rotation and how Masahiro Tanaka has not been the ace that fans have hoped for. Tanaka’s first half did not end well after he couldn’t finish the fifth inning of Sunday’s contest despite the Yankees giving him an 11-1 lead.

Then, we took a look at the second half of the schedule, which is difficult for the Yankees as they play the Red Sox, Orioles, Giants, and Astros right out of the gate. Despite winning three out of four against Cleveland, is it time for the team to sell? Plus, which teams would be great trade partners for the Yankees when discussing Beltran, Chapman, and Miller before the August 1st trade deadline?

Finally, we gave our players to watch for the second half of the season, which begins on Friday night, and all three of us give our takes on who will win the AL East when it’s all set and done.
