Ivan Nova could not escape the fifth inning Tuesday, as the Colorado Rockies (34-36) scored eight runs on 15 hits and defeated the New York Yankees (34-36) 8-4 at Yankee Stadium.

Nova struggled with the Rockies hard-hitting lineup all night long.

The 29-year-old right-hander lasted just four-plus innings, giving up six runs on eight hits en route to his fifth loss of the season. His record now stands at 5-5.

Colorado got to Nova early, scoring three runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. The Yankees would end up trailing the entire game.

The Rockies scored all eight of their runs in the first six innings.

Offensively, Colorado was led by Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon.

Arenado went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. The long ball was his Major-League-leading 21st of the season.

Blackmon launched a pair of solo home runs and scored three runs.

New York needed four pitchers after Nova to finish the game, including Nick Goody, Richard Bleier, Kirby Yates and Anthony Swarzak.

The Yankees struggled offensively, going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position as a team.

Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner each added two hits for the Bronx Bombers in the loss.

Rockies starter Chad Bettis earned his sixth win of the year by surrendering four runs on eight hits and striking out eight over six innings. With the win, Bettis is now 6-5.

Thus far this season, the Yankees are 0-3 against the Rockies. In those three games, Colorado has scored a total of 27 runs.

Tomorrow, the Yankees will send CC Sabathia (5-4, 2.20 ERA) to the mound to face Jon Gray (4-3, 4.55 ERA) for the Rockies in the series finale at 1:05 p.m.
