Yanks Go Yard Radio Show Rewind: Farm System Breakdown

On this week’s episode, we were joined by Robert Pimpsner of Pinstriped Prospects to talk about the site’s top 50 prospects

On this week’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, the entire theme of the show was taking a look at the New York Yankees’ farm system. With the organization not signing one major league free agent this winter, there will be more eyes on some of New York’s top prospects when spring training begins next month in Tampa.

This week, my guest was Robert Pimpsner, the founder of Pinstriped Prospects. Over the course of this month, Robert and his staff have put together who they think are the top 50 prospects in the organization. You can check out the entire list by clicking this link.

During this show, I started off by asking Robert about how the process works in forming this list and what were some of the tougher decisions that he and his staff had to make. Then, we dove deeper into certain players such as outfielder Aaron Judge, who was picked as the site’s top prospect. What are Judge’s expectations in 2016 after finishing 2015 with triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre?

Then, we took a look at some of the younger arms in the organization that could make an impact in the bullpen in front of Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Aroldis Chapman such as Jacob Lindgren, Nick Rumbelow, and James Pazos. One of the questions I would ask Rob after that topic is do the Yankees have enough starting pitching at both triple-A Scranton and double-A Trenton to fill in if there are injuries after they dealt Rookie Davis to the Cincinnati Reds in the Chapman deal and acquired Luis Cessa and Chad Green from the Tigers in the Justin Wilson deal.

After discussing some of the major prospects, Rob and I gave our take on who are some of the prospects to watch at the lower levels of the system (Charleston, Staten Island, Pulaski, Gulf Coast League) and who are some surprise prospects to watch in 2016.

Next: Should The Yankees Target Lincecum?

Finally, Rob gave us his biggest storyline to watch when spring training begins, his thoughts on the Yankees’ offseason moves (Chapman, Aaron Hicks, and Starlin Castro), and does the minor league signing of catcher Carlos Corporan mean that Gary Sanchez won’t start the season in the Bronx as the backup catcher behind Brian McCann?
