Sir Didi Gregorius will be in his second full season at shortstop for the Yankees while the newly acquired Starlin Castro will be making his pinstripe debut.

We know the Yankees and their fans are excited, but what about the 25-year old Starlin Castro? Just how excited is he join the Bronx Bombers?

Well on Wednesday Castro took to Derek Jeter‘s The Players Tribune to thank all the fans for making his time spent in downtown Chicago at the historic Wrigley Field memorable, but he also wrote that “he couldn’t be happier to be playing in New York.

Following his kind words for ‘The Windy City’ and all the Cubs fans, Castro said;

"“And now I want to help the Yankees win. That’s what I’m here to do. When I learned that I was being traded, it was bittersweet. I thought of all of the things that I would miss: from amazing teammates like Anthony Rizzo, to Wrigley and its fans, to all of the ways that Chicago has become my home since I was 20. But I am also at the stage of my career where I just want to win. Period. So, to be traded to a team with a winning tradition like the Yankees — it’s perfect.”"

Thanks to Starlin Castro, the Yankees will finally have a starting second baseman to run out onto the field for years to come since the days of Robinson Cano. No more Stephen Drew, no more Brian Roberts, no more Martin Prado and no more infield platoons. It’s just Starlin Castro.

On the defensive side of the diamond Castro provides the Yankees with athleticism and a strong arm. On offense Castro gives the Yankees a sold right-handed bat with plenty of pop. Over the course of his first six years in Chicago, the four-time All Star is a career .281 hitter with 62 home runs and 363 RBI.

Castro addressed the New York fan base in his post by saying:

"“To my new city, New York, I can promise you this: You are acquiring a player who just got to experience a pennant race for the first time — and loved it.”"

Clearly he’s looking to earn his pinstripes without even stepping out onto the field, and I’m fine with that! That’s the perfect attitude to have when playing for the demanding Yankees fan base.

And now I want to help the Yankees win. That’s what I’m here to do.”- Starlin Castro
