Brett Gardner´s Agent Sounds Out, Yankees Listening

Where have you gone, Brett Gardner? The Yankee Nation turns their lonely eyes to you.

Remember the days when players stayed with their teams for their entire careers? Joe DiMaggio did that. So did Mickey Mantle. And Bobby Murcer certainly would have too had the Yankees not traded him for Bobby Bonds. They were all True Yankees.

Now, as rumors run rampant that the Yankees are looking to trade Gardner, he maintains that he wants to play his entire career for the Yankees;

"“I let it be know to them that I wanted to stay here and be a part of this,” said Gardner, when he signed his extension, according to NJ.com. “I learned from guys that have come from other places that there’s no better place to play and I’m looking forward to staying here and helping the team win.” [related category]"

And now his agent, Joe Bick, is stepping up to remind the Yankees of Gardner´s loyalty. Obviously, Gardner does not have the skills of DiMaggio, Mantle or even Murcer. But he does have the heart that they had. And he walks with the same pride of being with the Yankees. He has always played all out, and through injuries when possible.

"“The only thing I’ll say about it,¨ Bick said according to NJ.com, ¨Is that the vast majority of players have no control over what a team’s front office decides to do, and Gardy — he’s in that position.” “His desire is to be a New York Yankee for his entire career. If it works out that way, great. If not, he’s going to show up and play every day.”"

New Yankees hitting coach Alan Cockrell recently said that he attributes Gardner´s second half slide to a wrist injury, and he expects him to bounce back next season. Certainly, he performed as if he were reaching his prime before last year´s all star game.

With out a doubt, the player the Yankees should move is Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury is inconsistent. There was a reason why the Red Sox let him slip away. And now we know that reason. Trade Ellsbury and move Gardy back to center field. Keep the man who is a True Yankee.
