According to Chosun.com, the New York Yankees are scouting Korean slugger Byung Ho-Park.

Park is a 29-year old first-baseman who absolutely raked this year for the Nexen Heroes, averaging .351 with 47 home runs and 134 RBI. He was named the Korean Baseball Organization MVP in 2012 and 2013.

In eight profession seasons overseas in Korea, Park has slashed a combined .281/.387/.563 with a .950 OPS. He has recorded 205 career home runs with, 134 doubles and 593 RBI.

He played for the LG Twins from 2005-2011 and the Nexen Heroes from 2011 to date.

According to a report from Jee-Hop Yoo of the Yonhap New Agency dating back to April, Byung Ho-Park has been eyeing a move to the major leagues after his teammate Jung-ho Kang signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates last off-season.

Park will in fact be eligible for posting immediately following the 2015 season should the Nexen Heroes allow it. According to the same Yonhap report, Park has already taken action by joining Octagon, the same sports agency that represented Jung-ho Kang during his move to the MLB.

If Park is posted, he will join a first-base market in the offseason that consist on Chris Davis, Justin Morneau and Edwin Encarnacion should the Blue Jays elect not to pick up his option.

It’s uncertain how serious the Yankees are really considering the Korean slugger. They’re still locked into Mark Teixeria for another year and Gregory Bird seems primed to take over as the every-day first baseman of the Yankees future.

Perhaps the Yankees are interested in bringing Park along as a designated hitter?
