New York Yankees News: Five Trenton Thunder Players Headed to All-Star Game

On July 1, the Eastern League announced their rosters for the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game. A grand total of five Trenton Thunder players will be in attendance representing the New York Yankees, including C Gary Sanchez, 3B Eric Jagielo, OF Jake Cave, RHP Nick Goody and RHP Eric Ruth. The game will be played on Wednesday July 15th at Hadlock Field Portland, ME.

This is the second straight Eastern League All-Star appearances for Gary Sanchez, who was activated off the disabled list of June 29th after suffering a hand injury earlier in the season. Sanchez is batting .251 with eight home runs and 29 RBI. He entered the 2015 season as the No.5 prospect in the New York Yankees farm system according to Baseball America.

Eric Jagielo, who was selected 26th overall by the New York Yankees in 2013, is currently second in the Eastern League in extra base hits with 31. He is averaging an impressive .284 with nine homers and 35 RBI this season. He entered the 2015 campaign as the No. 11 prospect in the New York Yankees system according to Baseball America. Unfortunately for Jagielo, he’s dealing with a significant lower-body injury, which might not only cause him to miss the 2015 All-Star Game, but the remainder of the 2015 season.

This is the third time Jake Cave has been named to an All-Star team in his minor league career. This season with Trenton, Cave is slashing .277/.348/.361 with two home runs and 21 RBI. He has been the most durable position plater this year for Trenton, playing a team high 73 games. He entered 2015 as the 17th best prospect in the Yankees farm system according to Baseball America.

Right-handed pitcher Nick Goody is currently in his first full season with the Thunder, and has pitched to a 1-1 record with four saves and a 1.63 ERA over the course of 27 appearances. Goody was drafted to the Yankees out of Louisiana State University in the sixth round of the 2012 draft.

Right-handed pitcher Eric Ruth is undoubtedly the leader of the Trenton pitching staff after Luis Severino was promoted to AAA. Eric Ruth currently owns a 5-1 record and a league leading 1.93 ERA for qualified starting pitchers.
