New York Yankees number one overall prospect Luis Severino continues to inch closer and closer to the major leagues. His latest feat; career win number one at the Triple-A level.

Severino struck out four hitters and allowed just four hits over 5.1 innings en route to a 7-2 Scranton win over the Buffalo Bison on Wednesday.

In dominant fashion, the 21-year old retired the first 11 hitters he faced before chalking up a base hit to Matt Hague that actually hit off Severino’s lower body with two outs in the fourth inning. He immediately recovered to strike out Brad Glenn to end the inning. One inning later Severino gave up a leadoff single, but regrouped by getting Daric Barton to ground into a 6-4-3 double play and Alex Hassan to strike out looking.

In the sixth, Severino ran out of gas and walked the leadoff batter. Jonathan Diaz lined out as the next batter, but Severino gave up back-to-back singles that loaded the bases for Buffalo, eventually ending Severino’s day. RainRiders reliever Danny Burawa replaced Severino and immediately allowed a two-run single before escaping the inning. Both runs were charged to Severino, but he eventually wen’t on to earn his first victory with the Scranton RailRiders.

Through three Triple-A starts, Severino has fanned a total of eight batters in 16.2 innings with a 1.08 WHIP and 2.70 ERA.

A few more stellar outings and the young right-hander might just find himself atop the mound in Yankee Stadium.
