Yankees News: Strikeout King Praise’s Young Yankee Pitcher Eovaldi

Alvin High School do not have many famous alums, but two of those notable people are Nathan Eovaldi, and the strikeout king himself Nolan Ryan. Growing up Eovaldi say Nolan Ryan’s everywhere in their hometown of Alvin, Texas. Last Sunday Ryan saw the young pitcher, and talked how he was excited to see Eovaldi pitch.

" I haven’t watched him in person, only on television, but I’ve followed him ever since he’s been in high school. I really think that the better part of his career is still ahead of him."

Eovaldi and Ryan have had a run in prior to this game. When Eovaldi was a Miami Marlin two years ago Nolan Ryan sent a piece mail to the young pitcher. When asked Eovaldi explained what Nolan Ryan gave in the piece of mail.

"He sent me a ball and said, ‘Congratulations.’ He signed a baseball and sent it to me; it said, ‘Go Jackets,’ — that was our Alvin high school team — and ‘Congratulations on your career, keep going.’"

Eovaldi has the stuff to be something special, and Nolan Ryan sees the potential in his follow Alvin High School alum. Ryan is not just a former pitcher, he is an executive director for the Astros, and before that he was the President and CEO of the Texas Rangers. In his time with the Rangers organization he saw the Rangers reach two World Series, before stepping down in 2013.

This upcoming year will be a break out year for Nathan Eovaldi. Everything is starting to come together for the young hurler. He is the number four starter in the Yankees rotation, but many Yankee beat writers agree that he has a great shot of being one of the breakout stars. You can watch one of the Yankee beat writers, Sweeny Murti talk about Eovaldi here.

The Yankees will need their pitching staff to carry the load this year, and Nathan Eovaldi will help. I expect him to be a major factor on the staff, and be the Yankee’s breakout star.
