Yankees News and Notes: Yankees Cut Scott Baker and Re-Sign Jared Burton

Scott Baker‘s hopes of making the club as a long man are over. The right-hander was released today by the Yankees. Baker gave up nine runs in 10.1 innings this spring, however he did strike out 10 in those innings. According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the Yankees hope to re-sign Baker for a minor league deal to bring him back.

The Yankees also re-assigned Kyle Davies to minor league camp today as well.

You read the other part of Hoch’s tweet correctly. Jared Burton and his mustache are back with the Yankees as the re-signed him after releasing him earlier in the week. Burton had pitched four scoreless frames for the Yankees, while striking out two. Burton had been battling a strained lat and came back today and began playing catch. It wouldn’t shock me if he makes the club, and is then placed on the 15-day DL.

In other news, Bryan Mitchell was optioned was to AAA. Esmil Rogers will now pitch in the bullpen. Maybe Chase Whitley is making the team as a long reliever.

Mark Teixeira played in a minor league game today and got hurt

Hopefully it’s just a bruise and he’s okay, but something the Yankees really don’t need in the last week of spring.
