Yankees Editorial: Repetitive Alex Rodriguez Questions Must Stop
New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman took questions at George M Steinbrenner Stadium in Tampa. Cashman took a cluster of questions, but you could guess what most of them were about. Since Alex Rodriguez received his year long suspension, the club (and Cashman especially) have been trying to rebuild a some what manageable relationship with him. However now that all the suspension talk is over and Alex is back, everyone just wants to treat this as a regular off-season.
In Cashman’s presser the more questions about Alex he got, the more angered he grew. There is really nothing more he can say about the situation. All baseball questions should be directed to Joe Girardi and he’s answered a majority of them already. Brian Cashman has obviously let it go, and is hoping the reporters can too.
While he never has been known to shy away from any questions, it was interesting to see him dodge the a-rod questions any way he could. What more could reporters want to know at this point? Alex is back and is ready to get to work, all that matters to anyone is him helping the team.
All areas of the team whether it be Cashman, Girardi, Alex himself, or teammates have given as many answers they could. The only one that really matters in my opinion are the answers coming from Girardi. How he’ll play him, where, when, and why. It’s all going to be answered in spring training, but the media in Tampa are trying to pass the time I suppose.
A majority of us are tired of talking about Alex, but there are still people who can’t get enough. I understand it’s their jobs, but what more could you possibly get out of anyone especially Cashman at this point. His anger is clear, and I think the only thing on his mind at this point is “How am I going to get out of paying Alex his home run bonus?”.
Alex certainly isn’t asking for all the attention, he just wants to play baseball and get the season under way. We can bring up the past all we want, but are we really going to let it ruin this season for us? The Yankees are the Yankees, there will always be the annoyance of the media. Reporters are going to get the same answers over and over again about Alex. There is nothing else to do but wait and see.
Hopefully Cashman showing clear displeasure in the questions will stop them until games are actually being played.
