The Yankees need to find a replacement for Derek Jeter. With the way their offense is, they can’t afford to start Brendan Ryan at shortstop. We all know the free agent market. Troy Tulowitzki is out there in a possible trade, but a new name is emerging.

More from Yankees Rumors

According to Bruce Levine of CBSChicago.com, White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez is available and the Yankees are among the teams interested in acquiring the 33 year old shortstop.

Ramirez is due $10 million next year and $10 million in 2016, with a $1 million buyout.

Ramirez made the All-Star team for the first time last year and hit .273/.305/.408 with 15 homers and 78 RBI. He’s also played in at least 155 games every year since 2010.

According to Fangraphs defensive rankings, Ramirez was ranked 13th among shortstops in defense which would be an upgrade from Jeter.

According to Levine, the White Sox are looking for pitching. This could be a spot where David Phelps or even Shane Greene gets involved in a deal. The Yankees could even offer a catcher out of their depth like Francisco Cervelli or even John Ryan Murphy to help the White Sox in that respect.

It’s early, but if they were to get Ramirez it would be a solid addition to the Yankees infield.
