Yankees Contact Dave Magadan About Open Hitting Coach Position

File this under a name to watch for the open hitting coach position. According to the NY Post, the Yankees have been in contact with current Rangers hitting coach and ex-New York Mets player Dave Magadan about taking over the open hitting coach position. Magadan is under contract until the end of next year, however, with the Rangers lacking a manager right now, he can talk to other teams.

Here’s what he told the post about it:

"“I have been called about that, it’s in the preliminary stages and that’s all I can say about it,’’"

and this:

"“They are letting all their coaches, under contract or not, talk to other teams because of the manager situation,’’"

Magadan has been a hitting coach for the San Diego Padres from 2003-2006 as well as with the Boston Red Sox from 2007-2011.

The Yankees are doing their due diligence. They are looking under every nook and cranny to find their next guy. It’s exactly what they should be doing.  Is Magadan the sexiest name out there? Probably not.  Would his hire excite the fan base? No, especially because he never played for the Yankees.

The new hitting coach won’t be hired overnight. He probably won’t be hired until the calendar hits November. Yankees fans must be patient and let the organization do its thing in looking for the new coach.
