Yankees Fall Short As Elimination Number Reaches One

We are getting closer to the end being near in the last few days of Derek Jeter‘s career as the Yankees fell to the Orioles 5-4. Combine that with the Royals win, the tragic number has reached one.

Brandon McCarthy has been good ever since the Yankees got him, but he didn’t exactly have his best start. Even though he struck out eight, and the Yankees ended up setting  a franchise record with their 1,319th strikeout tonight it wasn’t enough.

Ex-Yankee Kelly Johnson got the scoring started in the second inning with his seventh homer of the year. Jimmy Paredes, Nick Hundley and Nick Markakis all followed with singles to bring home the second run.

Markakis made it 4-0 in the fourth with his 13th homer of the year.

The Yankees got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth when Chris Young drove in Chase Headley with an RBI groundout.

Nelson Cruz then hit his 40th homer of the year in the fifth to get the run back.

The Yankees came back with a rally in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Stephen Drew drove in a run with a sac fly. Ichiro Suzuki would then strikeout to end the frame.

Brian McCann then hit his 23rd homer of the year, a two run shot to cut it to 5-4, but that’s as close as the Yankees could get it.

Shane Greene and Bud Norris will meet in game three of the series at 1:05 tomorrow afternoon.
