One of the Yankees decisions this coming off-season is whether they can afford or are able to keep Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy has been nothing but spectacular since being acquired and was again tonight. McCarthy went seven innings giving up two runs, including striking out the side on nine pitches in the Yankees 3-2 win over Tampa.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Evan Longoria hit his 22nd homer of the year.

The Yanks came back in the top of the fifth off Alex Cobb. Chris Young was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Chase Headley doubled him in to tie the game. A groundout moved Headley to third and Brendan Ryan drove in Headley with a ground-rule double.

The Yankees loaded the bases in the sixth when Derek Jeter broke an 0-28 slump with a single and two walks. Brett Gardner drove Jeter in with a sac fly.

Longoria drove in the Rays other run with a sac fly in the seventh after David DeJesus double.

The Yanks return home for their last homestand of the year beginning with four against the Toronto Blue Jays. Shane Greene will face R.A. Dickey at 7:05.
