Game Overview

The Yankees and Rays will play the second game of this important three game series in a matinee that is set to begin at 4:10 PM.

Last night was yet another disappointment for the team. Although they faced one of the more respected pitchers in the league, they could not seem to get it done against Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb. Cobb was in complete dominance from the very first inning, as he made the Yankees look completely off balance for the duration of his outing. He lasted 7.1 innings, in which he struck out eight and gave up no runs. The Yankees had an opportunity to capitalize in the eighth inning, as they had the bases loaded. However, they couldn’t scratch a run across, and they wound up dropping the opening game of the series 5-0. Another great start from Brandon McCarthy was once again wasted, as he kept the Yankees in the game from the start.

The Yankees losing last night makes it five games in a row. This also means that they dropped half a game in the AL Wild Card Standings, in which they now trail 4.5 games behind.
