According to a Tweet by Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, New York Yankees’ minor league infielder Dean Anna has been claimed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Anna, who broke camp with the big club, before being sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, was designated for assignment earlier in the week. The move was to make room on the 40-man roster for infielder Zelous Wheeler, while Yangervis Solarte was demoted to Triple-A after stuggling throughout the month of June.

In 25 plate appearance with the Yankees in 2014, Anna hit only .136, but did hit his first big league home run. Nicknamed the “Dean of Swing”, Anna was acquired by the Yankees this past winter from the San Diego Padres. The Ball State alum in 125 plate appearances with Scranton, continued to struggle at the plate, hitting .192, slugging only .292, with an OPS of .575. Anna according to Cotillo, will report to the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis.

Best of luck to Anna in his pursuit of reaching the big leagues once again!
