Is this the trade that’s been years in the making that may be going down? As Jose Ramirez was busy giving up runs to Tampa Bay, an interesting tweet by Fox Sports Jon Morosi:

Well, for the Yankees it does make some sense. The Yankees could use an upgrade at third as Yangervis Solarte has crashed into the wall that is regression and Kelly Johnson just isn’t that good. Of course how much of an upgrade is Headley?

Headley so far this season has a .204/.293/.327 line with six homers and 23 RBI in just 61 games. Of course, we all know he is just two years removed from a .286/31/115 line and being a MVP candidate.

The 30 year old has a herniated disc in his back that he just received an epidural for. Headley also missed time with a calf injury this year.

Headley is also due to be a free agent this year. If the Yankees acquire him and he does well and they want to keep him, it throws another monkey wrench into the what to do with Alex Rodriguez mystery.

What will it take to get him? Well, we aren’t too sure right now. We do know that the Yanks will have some competition from division rival Toronto for his services.

The next 31 days will be interesting and the Yankees scouting Headley is just the start. If he’s healthy and regains his MVP like form, it could be just the elixir for the Yankees offensive issues.
