We all know about the news that broke yesterday about Yangervis Solarte beating out Eduardo Nunez for the last spot on the New York Yankees opening day roster. What we don’t know is how they are going to do it.

The Yankees have a full 40-man roster. Since the Yankees don’t start the season until Tuesday, they don’t have to announce their roster until then. They could do a couple of things. One is to trade someone like Ichiro Suzuki or Austin Romine, but it doesn’t appear that is going to happen.  They could also put an active member of the 40-man roster. That person might be Nik Turley.

Turley didn’t pitch at all during spring training in minor league camp and had some lingering forearm issues. Those issues could land him on the 60-day DL which could free up that 40 man spot for Solarte. Turley made one start in AAA after going 11-8 with a 3.88 ERA.

Keep an eye out over the next 48 hours about how they add Solarte. When it happens, you can be sure we will have it covered for you.
