  • Cut Day: The Yankees made 10 cuts from the big league club, seven pitchers and three position players.  Preston Claiborne was optioned to Triple-A Scranton, while Chris Leroux, David Herndon, Jim Miller, Yoshinori Tateyama, Danny Burawa and Fred Lewis were each reassigned to minor league camp.  Zoilo Almonte, Scott Sizemore, and Russ Canzler were the position players cut.
  • Ichiro Up, Teixeira Down: Ichiro, 3-for-4 with two runs scored yesterday, has turned it on of late making a late spring push to prove to the Yankees (or some other team) that is can still be a useful role player, even if his days as a star are behind him. Meanwhile, Mark Teixeira continued his woeful spring, dropping his spring average to .091 after a 0-for-3 day.
  • Ellsbury Watch:

    Jacoby Ellsbury

remains on pace for opening day. He will play in a minor league game today but will most likely not return to Grapefruit League action again before the start of the season so that any DL stint can be backdated.

  • Roster Spots: The last competitions in camp are coming down to the wire. The last spot in the bullpen appears to be between Vidal Nuno, Cesar Cabral, and Shane Greene. The final infield spot meanwhile is down to Dean Anna and Yangervis Solarte.  All of the candidates figure to see heavy playing time over the last few days to try put themselves over the top in the eyes of manager Joe Girardi.
  • Today’s Game: The Yankees will host the Marlins tonight at The Boss. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.  Hiroki Kuroda will get the start but will only pitch two innings as a final warm-up for the season. Masahiro Tanaka will follow in relief and pitch about four innings.  The game will not be televised…and those are your Bomber Bites for March 28th!
