An Ode To Spring Training

Baseball is a beautiful sport, especially during the start of Spring Training. Looking outside my window, I still see my front yard covered in snow, while I long for better weather to return. In my wistfulness for baseball season: 2014 edition, I have compiled a few poems to express our love of America’s pastime, and the incomparable New York Yankees.

As more snow trickles from the clouds

Near my suburban New Jersey home,

I rejoice inside as I exclaim aloud

Spring Training brings Ellsbury, and the outfield he will roam.

All the Yankees and New Yankees

Travel down to Steinbrenner Field in Tampa,

To play their first game against Florida State

On February 25 on the minor league campus.

Let’s talk about fresh faces,

McCann, Beltran, and Tanaka too,

The first a catcher, second a master at mashing the ball to free spaces,

And Tanaka will throw and show what he can do.

The freshly paved and plowed infield,

By the Grounds Crew, the agricultural doctors,

Scotts Miracle Gro advertising their great product

and I’m not talking about Proctor.

Who can forget the great equipment names,

Such as Rawlings, Mizuno, Louisville Slugger,

Helping Tex, Jeter, and others claim their fame

As they catch and crush one more ball after another.

Players unite: veterans, prospects, and budding stars,

Here’s hoping for the Yanks they align

To make the 2014 Spring Training Season a great time!
