A close one: The Yankees yesterday improved their spring record to 9-14 with an 11-9 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Yankees were up 8-0 after three innings. Kevin Youkilis homered and drove in three. Melky Mesa hit a grand slam. Brennan Boesch added two hits of his own. Ivan Nova was just okay in his start. He gave up four runs on six hits in five innings of work.

No Tex?: A little more clarification on Mark Teixiera’s injury. He hurt the tendon sheath around his wrist. He doesn’t think it will need surgery but it’s possible. If he does need it though, he will be out until 2014

Off For Some: The Yankees are off today but some guys won’t be. Phil Hughes will throw a simulated game today. Andy Pettitte will start for the Tampa Yankees and Mariano Rivera will follow him. Francisco Cervelli will play in that game to catch both of them.

WBC: Robinson Cano and the rest of the Dominican Republic squad will take on the Kingdom of the Netherlands and former Yankee Andruw Jones. Puerto Rico upset Japan 3-1 to move to the final.  Cano is hitting .519 with two homers and six RBI and looks ready to go for the season.
