There is all joy in the Bronx! That is right, the New York Yankees continued their winning ways in the month of June as they swept the NL East leading Washington Nationals over the weekend. Now, the Bronx Bombers are on a nine-game winning streak and have swept three straight series for the first time since 1998. Now, the Yanks take on a team that they are very familiar with, but the venue shifts to the Bronx.

The Atlanta Braves come into Round 2 with the Yankees on not such a high note. Ever since they got swept by New York at Turner Field, they have had struggles at the plate and injuries on the mound with the loss of Brandon Beachy to the disabled list. The difference for me when it came to the last round, was the Braves’ lack of hitting with men in scoring position and A-Rod’s grand slam off of Johnny Venters in the second game. That home run changed the momentum for Atlanta after they had hit CC Sabathia hard in the first inning.

The Yankees did help the Braves when they swept the Nationals because Atlanta is only four games back in their division. The matchups this week will see two repeats from the last series with the matinee on Wednesday featuring two rising young pitchers in Tommy Hanson and Phil Hughes. Will the Yankees’ success continue?

For this podcast, I re-united with Fred Owens from Tomahawk Take to discuss the state of the Atlanta Braves. We talk about the pitching matchups, the Beachy injury, pending moves at the deadline, and the legacy of Chipper Jones as he makes his last trip to the Bronx. In turn, Fred asks me about Nick Swisher, Brett Gardner, and Hughes’ development.

Also, I will be at the game Tuesday night so look out for me there! We will have the Mets’ show air Thursday at 8 PM, so get your questions in for our insider from RisingApple.com.
