Yankees-Tigers Podcast Preview

While the Yankees’ trip to Los Angeles was not as great as fans would hope, they were still able to salvage the series thanks to the long ball from Curtis Granderson (former Tiger) and Robinson Cano. The bullpen also held its own as the New York Yankees end their West Coast trip with a 4-2 record. Now, they will finish up their road trip with a visit to Comerica Park against the struggling Detroit Tigers (24-27)

Right now, this is the matchup of two teams who have underachieved in terms of the talent level that they have. The Tigers have not received any consistency from their starting pitching other than AL MVP Justin Verlander. Without Doug Fister in the rotation, they have had to rely on a lot of young players like Drew Smyly and their starter tonight, Casey Crosby.

The offense has been the problem for Detroit with the injury to former Yankees prospect Austin Jackson forcing him to the disabled list. Their two main sluggers, Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, have not been able to go on a tear in the home run department so far this season. But, it is still early for both of these power-laden teams, and this still has the potential to be a playoff series in October whether ALDS or one-game playoff variety.

On this podcast, I talked with Al Beaton of BlessYouBoys.com on the SB Nation to discuss all things Detroit. We go over the pitching matchups as well as the issues that are facing the Tigers today. There is a little comedy surrounding this show as well so I expect you guys to really enjoy it!
