I WASN’T saying Booerns!

Boone Logan has one job as a LOOGY (lefty one out guy) — to get lefties out — and he can’t even do that.

His numbers against lefties are a joke: southpaws are hitting .300/.391/.425 with 12 hits, six runs, two doubles, a homer and a .344 BAbip in 40 at-bats (47 plate appearances) in 24 games. Boone has surrendered five walks to seven strikeouts (1.40 K/BB ratio) against lefties over that span.

His numbers against righties are actually much better, which is absurd seeing as how his job is to get lefties out. Righties are hitting .167/.259/.167 with four hits, a run, no extra-base hits, a .200 BAbip and four strikeouts to three walks (1.33 ratio). Granted, it’s a smaller sample size — 24 at-bats (27 PA) in 18 games — but those numbers are completely counterintuitive to baseball logic.

Plus, there have been five outings this season — four in his last eight appearances — where he has failed to retire a single batter. His numbers as a whole this season are painful to look out and his fastball velocity is down, that’s the long and short of it.

I understand the team is riddled with injuries to lefties (Marte, Feliciano) but maybe they can make a trade for a LOOGY that can, you know, actually retire lefties. Boone is relatively cheap this year ($1.2 million) and is in his last year of arbitration next season, so maybe they can package him in a deal. I realize that when he’s pitching like crap and is out of options there’s not going to be much value to him, but I’m sick of watching this idiot screw up games. He faced one batter last night and hit him. Are you kidding me?

If the only reason he’s on the team is because he is left handed, then the Yanks need to do something. Anything. If he doesn’t turn it around by mid-to-late July I’ll expect to see Boone Logan working at that McDonald’s across the street from Yankee Stadium.
