Former Yankees lefty ace CC Sabathia destroyed the team for their ALDS decision-making after they fell to the Rays.
Everyone who’s ever worn a Yankees uniform appears to disagree with the way Aaron Boone (and, let’s be real, Brian Cashman) handled their recent ALDS strategy against the loaded Tampa Bay Rays.
From Paul O’Neill (who implored the team to just “play baseball” again) and Michael Kay (who begged the Yankees not to try to be the smartest in the room against the masters in TB) to Alex Rodriguez (yes, even him), Yankees employees and affiliated folks are coming out of the woodwork to beg for normalcy after the team squandered all their momentum and fell in Game 5.
Even as we approach the one-week anniversary of Deivi Garcia throwing a single inning in Game 2 and never appearing in the series again, the decision has only become more confusing with the benefit of hindsight.
Luckily, we have people in our lives like CC Sabathia, who are just as annoyed as we are, but won’t mince words. On the first episode of his R2C2 podcast with Ryan Ruocco following the Yankees’ elimination, the legend did not hold back on the over-saturation of cute strategy that just doomed the team.
Let Sabathia tell it like it is, the way only the big man can:
"“We tried to play their game and they beat us at it and it ended up costing us the series, is how I feel about it. All we talk about is this kid’s [Garcia’s] character and how mature he is and I feel it was a perfect time to let him rock, let Masa rock, let J.A. Happ rock. Any one of those guys start the game and we score five runs, we win Game 2.”"
Sure, Game 2 made no sense, but did Big C agree with the way the bullpen was used in Game 5? We’ll give you one guess.
"“I mean like, [Chapman’s] gonna get seven outs? What the f—k? I’m sorry, but come on man. What are you doing? The way we use our relievers all year because we have so many of them lined up, I hate them to sit down and get up. They never end the inning and get back up. So you want [Chapman] to do that s—t two times and he [doesn’t] ever do that.”"
This has been a banner month for Sabathia, but unfortunately it’s resulted mostly in negativity. He unleashed on Carlos Correa who asserted disrespect last week, but regrettably, Correa’s moving on and Sabathia’s team is gone.
Can we just get this man a positive outcome at some point? What a disastrous campaign.
As hilarious as “Aggrieved CC” is, we still want to see him happy.

The New York Yankees are going to run out of active numbers at some point, but that shouldn't stop them from retiring these jerseys.
