2. Sanchez to the Nationals

The Washington Nationals make for a perfect trade partner simply because they’re in need of more consistent offensive production from the catcher position. The club’s two regular catchers, Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes, are both well over 30 years old and truthfully have no business playing as much as they do.

However, for defensive and game-managing purposes, the Nationals would be smart to re-sign the former to a one-year deal as a backup to Sanchez, who would fit in perfectly alongside their enticing young core of Juan Soto, Trea Turner and Victor Robles, among others.

Acquiring the Yankees slugger will come at a cost, as the Yanks will look to plunder Washington’s abundance of young pitching.

Believe it or not, 10 of MLB.com’s top 12 prospects in DC are hurlers. Expect New York to target 22-year-old lefty Tim Cate (No. 10) and right-hander Joan Adon, the defending champs’ No. 18 overall prospect. This should be more than enough of a haul to convince the Yankees to offload their slugging, albeit polarizing catcher.
