Yankees: 4 Bold Predictions for the 2020 Season
By Jerry Trotta
1. Gleyber Torres Wins the AL MVP
As we know, the 2020 season will total just 60 games, so there will definitely be an asterisk next to the winners of the annual awards.
It would be poetic for a slew of dark horse candidates to take advantage of getting off to a hot start, but we genuinely believe that Gleyber Torres will fend them off. In terms of health and production, the 23-year-old stud was one of the Yankees’ few reliable players last campaign and we fully expect him to take another big leap in Year 3.
New York Yankees SS Gleyber Torres is ready for the spotlight.
For the season, Torres hit .278/.337/.535 with 38 home runs, 90 RBI and an .871 OPS. If he can improve his batting average and on-base percentage, the two-time All-Star could, assuming DJ LeMahieu returns and comes back down to earth, end up running away with the AL MVP award.

The boldness of this prediction lies in the fact that Torres is still just 23 and his career-best finish in MVP voting was 17th in 2019. The Venezuela native still has plenty of maturing to do, but he clearly has the potential to exploit the logistics of a 60-game season.
