High-A Tampa Yankees (13-11)

All in all, it was a pretty decent week for the Tampa Yankees. Skipper Luis Sojo and his squad took two out of three games from the Clearwater Threshers and split a four game set with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, improving their overall record to 13-11, which has them currently sitting in second place in the North Division of the Florida State League.

Batter of the Week: Matt Snyder (.342, 3 HRs, 19 RBIs)

Matt Snyder continued his impressive offensive onslaught with an eight-hit week, including three multi-hit performances in three consecutive games from 4/30-5/2. Snyder’s impressive week included two home runs and a game in which he recorded four RBIs.

Honorable Mention: Tyler Wade (.321, 0 HRs, 9 RBIs)

Tyler Wade reached base safely in five of the six games he started this week for the Tampa Bay Yankees. He also recorded an RBI and scored four runs of his own as well. Wade also stole two bases this week, improving his total to 8 stolen bases on the year. His combination of speed and hitting for average is turning him into a pretty interesting prospect within the Yankees system.

Pitcher of the Week: Chaz Hebert (2-1, 2.57 ERA, 11 Ks)

Chaz Hebert picked up his first two wins of the season in as many appearances for the Tampa Yankees this week.

On Sunday April 26th, Hebert was nearly perfect, tossing five no-hit innings to earn his first win of the season in a 3-2 final over Clearwater. Despite giving up a leadoff walk to Mitchell Walding to start the third inning, Hebert faced the minimum 15 batters in five innings thanks to a strike-him-out-throw-him-out double play in the the third. The southpaw tallied three strikeouts in what became his first win in High-A ball.

On Saturday, Hebert followed up his first win with another dominant performance. He pitched four innings in relief for Yankees starting pitcher Chris Capuano in the first start of his rehab assignment. Hebert tossed 4.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts. It wasn’t as dominant a performance as his first start in the week, but it was enough to improve his record to 2-0 on the week.

Honorable Mention: Connor Kendrick (1-2, 10.69 ERA, 15 Ks)

After getting roughed up in his first three starts of the season, Kendrick bounced back nicely in his lone start this week against Lakeland. He tossed five innings of two hit baseball, giving up one earned run while striking out five and walking two in what became his first win of the season.
