Game Three

In the series finale, desperately needing a win to salvage the series and the road trip, the Yankees turned to their rotation savior, Brandon McCarthy. The Yankees gave him an early lead, but once again he was off his game, giving up not one, not two, but three long balls to the Jays’ powerful hitters, and the Yankees fell short in the 9th, losing the game 4-3, and the series 2 games to 1.

The highlight of the game for the Yankees was Brett Gardner falling a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Derek Jeter, in his final appearance in Toronto, he lined out softly with the tying run on second base in the 9th inning, as the Yankees continue to struggle to perform at the dish on a consistent basis.

McCarthy went 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs along with the 3 bombs. He struck out 4 and walked 2. The Yankees are starting to run out of time, as the clock might have struck midnight for McCarthy and the Bombers’ season. J.A. Happ continued to pitch masterfully at home for the Jays, going 7 innings, allowing only 3 earned runs, striking out 6 more Yankees, bringing the total over two days to 20 total Ks. The heat and pressure have to be mounting on Yankees’ hitting coach Kevin Long, who has to be as good as gone once the season concludes due to the Yankees’ offensive futility two seasons in a row.
