Players to Watch

Regardless of the Yankees’ struggles as a team, there are a few players in the lineup who are still continuing to tear the ball. Although Yankees fans has been giving Carlos Beltran a hard time this season, it seems like he is finally starting to pick it up. Even though he was 0-for-4 in last night’s game, he has still been putting up the power numbers that the Yankees have been waiting to see. Since July 18th, Beltran is hitting .299, with five home runs and 17 RBI in 26 games played.

Francisco Cervelli is another player that has quietly been doing work at the plate. On this current road trip, he is 3-for-8, which includes a home run. The Yankees know that Cervelli isn’t one of the more powerful hitters, but they will take any offense they will get at this point.

One other player that stands out for the Yankees is Stephen Drew. Since joining the Yankees on July 31st, Drew has 7 RBI in 13 games. He has been struggling a little bit of late, but he will definitely find his stroke sooner than later.

As for the Rays, all eyes need to be kept on James Loney. He has put on quite a show against the Yankees this season, as he is hitting .419 with 10 RBI.
