Another former member of the Texas Rangers returns to Arlington in the way of Brandon McCarthy. He has been a godsend for the Yankees, pitching up to his talent level, and dominating the competition since his return to the American League after a disastrous 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Many credit his use of the cut-fastball as the reason for his new found success.

Taking on McCarthy, will be rookie Nick Martinez, who, because the Yankees have historically struggled with pitchers they’ve never faced before, looked like Cy Young. Martinez, who came to the majors all the way from Double-A, tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees, yielding only 3 base hits. Martinez only threw 67 pitches, so it’ll be interesting to see if manager Ron Washington stretches his out a little more this time around given his previous success.
