Mr Consistent on the Yankees continues to be just that. Hiroki Kuroda dominated the Toronto Blue Jays yet again, improving his record to 6-2 as the Yankees stopped their two game losing streak and shut out the Jays 5-0. Kuroda allowed just two hits over his eight innings of work. His ERA is now 1.99, which is fourth in the AL. (more…)

If you would’ve said to me in December that Brennan Boesch and Lyle Overbay would be starting for the Yankees in a game in April and being big contributors to a victory, I would’ve questioned your sanity. Hafner carried the offense and CC Sabathia fought hard even though he didn’t have his best stuff as the Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 and look for the four game sweep tomorrow afternoon. The Yankees have been said to rely too much on the home run. The thought was that with the way the team is currently constitued, that the team wouldn’t rely as much on the homer. The two main competitors for the fifth starter spot this spring for the New York Yankees were Ivan Nova and David Phelps. Both were involved in the loss today as Nova again struggled, and Phelps blew hold of a lead as the Toronto Blue Jays salvaged a game in the weekend series, winning 8-4. As I have said all season, this is a very gutty Yankee team. An old school team with a ton of fight. Even if the bullpen, who usually does a great job, blows the lead, they don’t panic. They didn’t today either, as they took advantage of a Blue Jay mistake and won 5-3 in 11 innings. It wasn’t all good as Kevin Youkilis left in the sixth inning with a lower back injury. (more…)

The Yankees offense doesn’t always click, but when it does, the ball leaves the yard. Guess who leads the AL in in home runs? That’s right, it’s the Yankees. Granted it’s very early, but it’s a good sign that the team is still putting the ball over the fence without guys like Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira. The offensive production was not pretty in Cleveland, but the Yankees were still able to find a way to get the job done. Thanks to Curtis Granderson and his 200th home run of his career and some great pitching from the bullpen, the Bronx Bombers were able to take two of three in Cleveland against the Indians. The lead in the American League East is back up to four games thanks to mother nature in Baltimore and the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay. Now, New York begins a stretch where they will only play division opponents from now until September 21st.

Blue Jays bury Hughes; Yankees unable to dig all the way out in 10-7 loss

The New York Yankees saw their four-game win streak snapped yesterday afternoon as Phil Hughes suffered through his second poor start in a row. The Toronto Blue Jays ripped Hughes to the tune of seven runs in four innings dropping his record to 11-10 and raising his ERA to 4.44. The Yankees mounted a spirited comeback but it fell short in the 10-7 loss. (more…)
